Once again, we’ve chosen Yorkshire Air Ambulance as our Festival charity partner. This incredible rescue service, comprising two fully kitted-out helicopters, does an amazing job providing a live-saving advanced trauma team to the people of Yorkshire, operating across 4 million acres of territory.
To ensure that it’s able to reach emergencies wherever they happen, its two air ambulances operate from the Nostell Priory Estate near Wakefield, and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk.
Each air ambulance consists of a highly trained pilot, a critical care consultant level doctor with experience of A&E, an anaesthetic specialist and two critical care paramedics.
Together, both air ambulances respond to over 1,500 incidents, treat over 1,100 patients and flies over 330 patients to major trauma centres and other hospitals across the county each year.
Our Festival CEO Michael has been on the receiving end of their expert care and is indebted to the professional response he received from the team – hence why we’ve chosen them, once again, to be our charity partner.
Logistics permitting, we may be lucky enough to have one of their air ambulances dropping in for a brief visit during our 2022 Festival.
In the meantime, they need all the help we can give them. The vital work they do is only possible thanks to the generosity of individuals and organisations. It costs £4.4m a year to keep both air ambulances fully operational.
