The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival is honouring its pledge to Holme Valley Parish Council’s Emergency Climate Committee to create a community plan, which we believe is unique in connection with motorsport festivals.

The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival Orchard Project

The land for the orchard has been kindly donated by a local landowner and the initial planting programme is now planned.  We are fully engaged with both the Woodland Trust and local contractors, one of whom is donating extra topsoil, to start the preparation of the ground after the Festival this year.

The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Holme Valley and the YMSF orchard will help mitigate the impact of the Hill Climb.  This is why we we want to encourage members of the local community to join us in creating this orchard when it comes to planting, maintaining and harvesting the fruits of this special community project.

We are delighted to say that one of our Festival sponsors has already expressed an interest in supporting this initiative.  This project is open to all local businesses and those living in the Holme Valley and we would be delighted to hear your ideas as to how we can best integrate this project within your community.

We are particularly keen to involve local schools and educational establishments and we invite you to sign up to be part of this local initiative where pupils will be able to come and learn about indigenous orchard species, understand how to care and maintain them, and to give young pupils an opportunity to be part of this long term project which we fully expect them to benefit from especially when the fruit is ready to be picked.

To be a part of this green initiative contact us on info@ymsf.net with the reference : YMSF Orchard in the subject line.

Beyond the Orchard Project and because we appreciate that caring for the environment is the responsibility of us all, we are in the final stage of achieving our ISO 14001 accreditation.  In addition, we are now working with Planet Markon our sustainability certification.  As part of this year’s Festival, Planet Mark will  measure our Carbon footprint and this data will become the basis of our future sustainability and continuous improvement plans for the Festival as we look forward to this annual event.
